Muscle Study
Description
A full and comprehensive system built from module to allow a complete Muscle and Neural drive study device, in total offering the following investigations.
Integrated in the basic module
- Mouth pressures (MIP / MEP)
- Nasal Sniff (SNIP)
- Compliance
May be integrated to the basic module
- Trans Diaphragmatic pressure Oesophageal Diaphragm (PDI)
- Using SNIP Stimulation
- Using Electro-magnetic Stimulation
- Inspiratory pressures (P01)
- Inspiratory pressures with CO2 responses (P01 CO2)
- Abdominal movement belt
- EMG Abdominal (2 channel)
One device to cover all testing, include all or any modules of interest to build a unique testing system.
The work of breathing can be studied in many ways, however no other single system will provide such a comprehensive summary of the interaction of all the stimulants to respiration is one singe unit.
System concept
A single mouthpiece connects the subject. This permits the measurement of flow at the lips with a Lilly Pneumotachograph, the occlusion valve attaches to the distal end of the flow transducer and permits rapid occlusion with pneumatic control.
The respiratory band placed at the abdomen measures the diaphragmatic shift and amplitude during efforts. A twin lumen balloon can be placed or two single balloons to present the pressure at the oesophagus and at the diaphragm.
The use of a two channel EMG to measure changes at the Diaphragm allows the synchronisation of the signal with the pressure waveform. In a later stage it is proposed to align the signal with the flow produced at the lips also as a complete picture of the work of breathing.
The control of electro-magnetic stimulation permits the triggering of neuro-muscular responses (using an additional electro stimulator available as an external device).
The instantaneous inspiratory pressure study measured at 100 milliseconds into the inspiratory cycle of tidal breathing responses can further be added to carbon dioxide re-breathing stimulation.
